Claude Sonnet 3 was the mid-tier model of the Claude 3 family, released February 2024. It was deprecated on 21 January 2025 and retired on 21 July 2025; requests to it now fail.

What Claude Sonnet 3 is good at
This model is retired and no longer available. Anthropic retired claude-3-sonnet-20240229 on 21 July 2025. Anthropic's own recommended replacement is Claude Sonnet 4.6, and that is where this page points.
This page is kept deliberately rather than removed. Search demand for a model does not stop when its successor ships — people still look up Claude Sonnet 3's pricing and limits long afterwards — and a 404 answers nobody. The pricing and specification figures that were published for this model are no longer maintained here, because a retired model cannot be bought and a stale number is worse than none.
