Use the Overlap Deliberately
With the UK and Europe the working day mostly coincides. With the US it does not, and the difference between offshore delivery working and not working is usually whether that gap was planned for or ignored.
We put anything needing real discussion — scoping, design decisions, demos, difficult news — inside the overlap window, and keep the rest asynchronous with written updates. The failure mode is a team that saves everything for a weekly call and loses four days each time a question comes up.
The timezone difference is occasionally an advantage. Something raised at the end of your day can be addressed before your next one starts, which only works if the question was clear enough to act on without a conversation.
Settle Ownership and Data at the Start
You should own everything the engagement produces — code, prompts, evaluation sets, fine-tuned weights and documentation — assigned explicitly rather than implied. This is worth checking with any vendor, because retained-rights arrangements are common and painful to unpick once a system is in production.
Data handling comes first for the same reason. Where your data may be processed determines which models are available and how the system is architected. Discovering a residency requirement after the design is fixed means rebuilding, not adjusting.
Judge Us on the First Few Weeks
Start with a scoped proof of concept rather than a programme. You will learn more about whether the working relationship functions in three weeks of real delivery than in any amount of reference-checking.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much of our working day actually overlaps?
With the UK and Europe, most of it. With the US East Coast there is a workable morning-for-us, morning-for-you window; with the West Coast the overlap is narrow and has to be used deliberately. We schedule the sessions that need real-time discussion inside that window and keep everything else asynchronous, rather than pretending the gap does not exist.
Who owns the code and the models?
You do, assigned in the contract, including model weights, prompts, evaluation sets and documentation. Ask this of any vendor and read the answer carefully — arrangements where the supplier retains rights to something you depend on are common and difficult to unwind later.
What happens to our data?
It is a design constraint we settle first, because it determines what can be built. If your data cannot leave a jurisdiction, that rules out some models and shapes the architecture. Where we can work on synthetic or redacted data during development we prefer to, since it removes the question from most of the project.
How do you handle the risk that remote delivery goes quiet?
Short cycles with something demonstrable at the end of each. The failure pattern in offshore delivery is six weeks of reassuring status reports followed by a bad demo. Weekly working software is unglamorous and it is the only reliable defence — it also means a wrong direction costs a week rather than a quarter.
Is cost the main reason to work with an Indian firm?
It is a real factor and it should not be the deciding one. If price is the only consideration you will find cheaper, and cheapest rarely produces a system anyone can maintain. The better reason is finding senior people who have actually shipped AI systems, at a rate that lets you fund a genuine proof of concept rather than a slide deck about one.
Can you sign our MSA, DPA and security requirements?
Generally yes, and we would rather review them at the start than discover a blocker at signature. The ones that genuinely need discussion are usually data residency and any requirement for staff in a specific country. If we cannot meet a requirement we will say so rather than work around it quietly.
